The Aquatic Division operates where the parade route ends and the water begins. Deep Protocol governs everything below the surface: training, rescue, diplomacy, and recovery. What happens beneath the waves stays beneath the waves, unless it files a report.
Siren School Command
All aquatic instruction begins at the Siren School, under the direct supervision of its Headmistress. The curriculum covers breath discipline, current navigation, deep-water etiquette, and parade float choreography. Graduation is not guaranteed. The Headmistress has never once been seen blinking.
Initial Descent Formation
Submersion drills begin with coordinated entry and full mask acclimation. This formation demonstrates trust-based descent: every dog holds position while dolphin escorts verify depth. No dog has ever requested to surface early. Several have requested to stay down.
Flank Maneuver Briefing
Before every high-speed exercise, the squadron assembles for briefing: dolphins, one juvenile shark, two orcas, and a bowtied fish liaison. The shark trains under Siren School protocol. The fish wears the bowtie so everyone knows he is management.
Search and Rescue Simulation
Mermaid-taught dolphins perform an unconscious diver extraction during a SAR simulation. Our dolphins remain unmatched in time-critical recoveries. The mermaid observing from the blue is grading. She grades everything.
Level 2 Depth Hold Evaluations
Trainees are evaluated by mermaid instructors. Stillness, command responsiveness, and bubble-free communication are assessed before progression to Level 2 Depth Holds. Appealing a judge's score is permitted. Winning the appeal has never happened.
Abyssal Liaison Office
The Division maintains formal diplomatic relations with the entities of the deep. The Abyssal Accord was signed tentacle-to-hand after three hundred years of negotiation, most of which was the kraken pretending not to notice us. He noticed. He always noticed.
Parade Float Salvage Operations
Not every float survives the parade. Those that go down are recovered by the salvage detail: dive-certified dogs on the ropes, dolphins on the lift. Confetti is classified as debris, and debris is classified as evidence. Nothing is left behind.
